Cucugnan is a small living village of c. 150 people in the Aude department in Languedoc Roussillon. Only 30 minutes from Perpignan airport (low cost Ryan Air flights) and on a choice of Mediterranean beaches within one hour; yet, located in the sheltered and rugged Corbiere hills. It has quick easy access to the Pyrenees where there is fantastic walking and hiking. In the Pays Cathare of the Aude department the High Corbieres is a territory which has kept its authenticity where you can still get away from it all. It is truly unforgettable in all seasons and will leave you astounded by its beauty. Located close to Spain the Pyrenees Orientales department benefits from a temperate climate with plenty of sunshine.
Over the centuries the village has successfully managed to maintain its typical character with small roads without (or with very little) traffic. Many tourists visit each year to admire the alleyways, old stones, the church and the mill which grinds the wheat to make the flour used by the village baker to make the local bread. And what bread!
Cucugnan is famous in Europe because of Alfonse Daudet who in his “Letters from my mill” told the story of the parish priest of Cucugnan (519 editions have been published and it’s available in 19 languages).
It's a charming house tastefully renovated, using quality materials where one can immediately spend relaxing holidays in an area bathed in sunshine.
